When evaluating second hand trailers, the primary focus should be on structural integrity and legal compliance. Key inspection points include the chassis for corrosion, the condition of the braking system (including the overrun hitch), and the age/tread of the tires. For trailers with internal power, ensure they have a valid NIC EIC electrical certificate to guarantee that the wiring meets current safety standards for commercial use. Second hand box trailers offer a secure, weatherproof, and mobile alternative to static containers. Because they are designed for aerodynamics and road vibration, their body panels are typically high-impact GRP or honeycomb composites, providing superior insulation compared to standard metal sheds. To understand how these assets can benefit your operations, explore the advantages of second hand box trailers for Business. They remain the ideal solution for companies requiring "swing space" or overflow inventory management that can be relocated easily between sites.
Exhibition trailers typically utilize three types of power delivery: external mains hookup (16a or 32a), on-board diesel generators, or Silent Running True Hybrid Systems (STHS). Hybrid systems are increasingly common as they use high-capacity battery banks and inverters to run lighting and AV equipment without the noise or emissions of a motor, making them suitable for indoor halls or quiet-zone outdoor events. Medical trailers and mobile clinical units must comply with strict healthcare infrastructure standards. This includes DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliance for accessibility, such as integrated hydraulic lifts or specialized ramps. Internally, they must feature "clinical grade" finishes—non-porous, seamless flooring and walls that facilitate rigorous infection control and meet NHS or private healthcare sanitation protocols.
The maintenance of HGV trailers (articulated units) is governed by more stringent mechanical requirements than standard towable units. This includes regular "PDI" (Pre-Delivery Inspections), air brake system pressure tests, and structural floor loading assessments. For specialized HGV units, such as mobile command centers or laboratories, the maintenance schedule must also include the leveling systems and hydraulic expandable "pods" to ensure the unit remains stable when deployed.
